Geometrical acoustics Simulations based on geometrical acoustics rely on ray theory, i.e. the approximation that sound propagates between two points along straight, ray-like paths. Thus, an un-occluded linear path between a source and receiver is sufficient to model the direct sound, and specular reflections can be simulated by piecewise linear paths that obey Snell’s Law when they encounter flat, reflecting surfaces.
